The Zero (0) ...

 Hey!

So, Lately i have been coming across few stuff which I always wondered about .Be it their existence or the way it all started. That's how my last post came in here and today it is yet another one about the 'Zero'.

Yes, the number Zero .With which the numbers start and for which we say has no value ,is a neutral (neither positive nor negative number) and many more .

Here, I came across something today while watching TV and heard the description from Chinna Jeeyar swamy ,  an Indian ascetic known for his spiritual discourses on Sri Vaishnavism .

He was talking about science and how the Vedas were created and then explained how everything started and what actually all these resemble. And that's where I learnt and related to few interesting stuff about the number Zero.

Let's start.

It is said that the Universe is 'Anantham' ,meaning infinite or end less. So, according to what I learnt from this show ( and how I believe the world came into existence as well) -

There is this Universe/Space (empty space) which is full of energy. When you see at Space ( aakaasam) , you probably cannot see anything or feel anything. Its just like a dark room. Right? But it actually is not empty , it is full of energy out of which is all these stars, solar systems, planets ,moons and everything else formed and came into existence.

Then why do we see it like an empty thing?

Because it is just energy . Energy is the capacity to do some work.(Remember this definition from our school science books?)

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be transferred from one form to another. Remember this as well?

So, this energy in the Space has created several objects and those objects gained some features or properties that might support life / do not .( I have an opinion on this - I always believe life starts with the available resources around it.For example, Take Earth - there is water and land and air here , so life on earth began and started using these resources for the  survival. So, our systems /bodies have eventually developed the organs inside, in such a way that they use the available resources to support our living here. So, not every life or every creature in this Universe must have to have the same available resources to live life. And so I believe in Alien existence as well. There might be life somewhere too where there is no air like it is on Earth, so there might be life which might not be similar to us because they build organs that use the kind of air available on their planet!. To explain better, we live on breathing in oxygen and that is the key element which we consume from air.May be on other planet they use Nitrogen instead ,because that is in abundance and since we know life always adapts to its surroundings for survival - they might have organs that can take in Nitrogen and process energy .I am not sure but there is such a possibility is what I believe in)

ok now back to the main topic. The energy from Space is where it all started. In Telugu we call space as 'Soonyamu' which means nothing or empty. We call the number zero with the same word too ,'soonyamu' and also 'Poornamu' as well sometimes.

Soonyamu means empty /nothing

Poornamu means full/complete

So, Zero is full and empty! :D ,Strange ha?

It is said in the show that Space is called empty but it actually is not Soonyam but it is Poornamu(full) .The above explanation of energy fills this statement.

It is also said that the languages , actually the 'Sounds' also relate to these. It is said that letter 'అ' ( Telugu letter that sounds as 'Aa' ) is used to represent the Space. And that everything starts with అ which means Space. (Take this as అ is a word used to represent Space.Just like the word space itself)

And the combination of అ , ఉ and మ is what is the word ఓం ('Om') is.This word 'Om' is considered a sacred sound and chanted , is also known as the sound of the Universe ( I just learnt it from google! ) Oh and google says this too -

Interesting fact :

అ , ఉ and మ means Creation,Sustenance and Destruction respectively. Its fascinating again to know that everything from science that we get to know and that something that is already taught in form of Vedas link up so well!We just have to pay attention.

Back to topic : So,

Space is అ from where Om is formed .And that word Om divides into 3 sub parts as defined in the Gayathri mantram , which is the foundation for Vedas.

Again, tried googling about this and found -

Its recitation is traditionally preceded by oṃ and the formula bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ, known as the mahāvyāhṛti, or "great (mystical) utterance".

And the word by word meaning of this Mantra :

(Om - Para Brahman (entire universe); Bhur - Bhuloka (Physical Plane); Bhuvah - Antariksha (space); Svah - Svarga Loka (Heaven); Tat - Paramatma (Supreme Soul); Savitur - Isvara (Surya) (Sun god); Varenyam - Fit to be worshipped; Bhargo - Remover of sins and ignorance; Devasya - Glory (Jnana Svaroopa ie Feminine/Female); Dheemahi - We meditate; Dhiyo - Buddhi (Intellect); Yo - Which; Nah - Our; Prachodayat - Enlighten.)

Cool!

And from the above illustration of Space and it being seemed as empty but being full with energy - I related to the number Zero and found it interesting. Zero is also empty but it is not always. For instance, when there is a Zero after another number like in 10, 100 ,600... it increases the value. But a Zero is zero. Also, in mathematics the properties of zero are different from other numbers. It is easy to segregate other numbers like positive, even ,odd or so. But for zero it is not that easy.It is a neutral number. When divided or multiplied , it is unique and different from others.Thats how I felt fascinated about it and this post came up.

Let me end this post with one personal experience from my 10th class with the same concepts of Zero 😃 .

There is property of 0, where 0/0 is undefined. This was something I read and could not relate or understand properly.Because, just before reading 0/0 is undefined, I read that anything divided by zero is infinity.

So, It was kinda confusing for me to digest that 0/0 is not same as anything/0 or vice versa. I went and asked my maths sir (KSR sir) about this and he explained me something which probably did not get into my brain clearly,so I cannot recollect the explanation now :P .But I remember that ,it is something explained as part of a PhD in Mathematics.

Since then , I always wondered about the properties of Zero and today when I could relate all this it is kinda nice :)

That's all folks!
